Chapter 4 of 11
Electricity and your energy stock
Every running PC uses electricity. There is one flat price for everyone: $0.55 per kWh.
- Price
- $0.55/kWhsame for every island
- Refills
- 12 h · 24 h · 72 hof your running load
- Included
- 24 hwith every PC card
#One flat price
Electricity costs the same $0.55 per kWh on every island and every power level. Power levels only decide how many watts all installed PCs may reserve; they never change the price.
#What a PC costs per day
kWh = watts × hours ÷ 1,000
cost per day = watts × 24 ÷ 1,000 × $0.55A Fern draws 89 W: 89 × 24 ÷ 1,000 = 2.136 kWh a day, which costs $1.17.
| PC | Draw | Per day | Cost per day |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 W | 0.12 kWh | $0.07 | |
| 20 W | 0.48 kWh | $0.26 | |
| 77 W | 1.848 kWh | $1.02 | |
| 103 W | 2.472 kWh | $1.36 | |
| 87 W | 2.088 kWh | $1.15 | |
| 89 W | 2.136 kWh | $1.17 | |
| 115 W | 2.76 kWh | $1.52 | |
| 159 W | 3.816 kWh | $2.10 | |
| 65 W | 1.56 kWh | $0.86 | |
| 267 W | 6.408 kWh | $3.52 | |
| 395 W | 9.48 kWh | $5.21 | |
| 348 W | 8.352 kWh | $4.59 | |
| 493 W | 11.832 kWh | $6.51 |
#Your energy stock
Your island has one shared energy stock, measured in kWh. Every running PC draws from it, desk 1 included. A PC is installed only when your power capacity and Island Level allow it.
Run time is your stock divided by your running load. The Energy window shows it, and warns you when less than 6 hours are left and again under 1 hour.
#Refills
Buy 12, 24 or 72 hours of your current running load. The price follows the load: the more watts are running, the bigger the refill. If your load changes before you buy, the game asks you to refresh the offer.
Every PC card includes 24 hours of its own electricity. Parts don’t include energy.
#Spend less on electricity
- Compare H/s per W. It tells you how much a PC makes for each watt (see PC building).
- Keep PCs cool. Heat doesn’t change the watts a PC uses, but it lowers its H/s, so care pays twice (see Heat & care).
